Why Windows 10 Instead of 8.1?

It's been couple of months since I upgraded to Windows 10 from my previous original copy of Windows 8.1. Not that I intentionally chose to use the previous operating system but it came with the computer I bought.  As soon as the copy of Windows 10 available,  I just said yes to upgrade.  Why then I chose Windows 10 over Windows 8.1?

As I live in Indonesia and not part of the haves all the time (well not that now I am tho :P), computer and its operating system definitely is a luxury. At least during my younger days. So unless using an institutional computer (computer in campus lab for example), most probably I used pirated version of Windows on the computers I used or installed Linux on my own computer at home and finally installed (pirated) Windows XP.  Spending one million something rupiahs for an operating system was too expensive.

Until I bought my latest laptop just last year (I stopped using my XP installed laptop years ago and used my smart phones ever since) which came with installed Windows 8.1. It was a total disaster! And to make it worse, I bought the original copy!

As soon as Windows 10 available, I override the waiting option, downloaded the operating system and installed it. It has been few months I'm using it and a big relief compared to the 8.1. So, I'll just tell you why I'm happy with the operating system.

Why Windows 10?

Familiar Modern Interface - Even though the new interface of 8.1 seems so modern, sleek, ahead of time, it caused so much trouble. I don't know how to navigate without getting my self lost a click or two. With the 10, I find the familiar taste of the older windows with great enhancement here and there.

There are still that modern, sleek looks on it tho, but I can get where I need to easily!
Faster Respond Time - in 8.1, it was a torture opening Chrome, Picasa and Windows Explorer. It took forever (if not crashed and auto restart). Using Windows 10 I can run the three applications simultaneously. Well ok, my computer is not the one with high specs, so getting improvement on performance really is something. I can even run windows music and or movie player.

Great Built-in Apps - I know that Microsoft is aiming Windows 10 to be some kind of environment like Android and iOS so that they can jump into the ocean and compete with both Google and Apple so that they put built in apps with high functionality in order to do so. I don't use Cortana yet and haven't explore all of Windows 10 the functionality, but I find its Music and Movie Players are great addition to the operating system. Well, compare to the old Windows Media Player which I still don't get the fully grasp of it.

I read a lot that its Microsoft Edge is also great but given my computer specification, I still find it too heavy to run.

Totally Free - Well, it is totally free! At least for me who bought the original 8.1 and yes, I'm one of them. One of the people who are wondering after all these years, Microsoft sold those Windows at relatively high price while the performance of the products were (arguably) questioned but now they release this one for free!

So if you are still considering whether to upgrade or not and still questioning why Windows 10 instead of your current running Windows, I can say that the version is worth to try. You still can uninstall and return to your previous version of Windows anyway. :)
